Alliance of Necessity
Background story inspired by our Space Wolf vs. Dark Angel/Eldar match

Operations have been running smoothly for the Space Wolves in their cleansing of this green and blue orb they first set foot on only a few weeks prior. A beautiful imperial paradise world in time's past, the planet had been occupied by a force of Eldar 253 years prior, declaring they were retaking what was rightfully theirs. The Space Wolves, along with their Imperial Guard support, cared not for the xeno's lies of some outlandish millennia-old claim to what they called a "Maiden World". Instead, the Sons of Russ used this to their advantage, pushing the assault almost recklessly ahead, knowing the Eldar would hold back so not to disturb the natural beauty of the world.

And so we come to the vile silver-tongued xeno's last stand on this now war-torn planet with little hope of a retreat. The Wolf Lord decreed that he would snap his jaws around the jugular of the desperate Eldar rearguard himself. Imperial support was left to fortify and the Space Wolves moved in for the kill.

Meanwhile a scouting fleet of Dark Angel ships broke from warp travel and entered the system, awaiting an audience with the leaders of the endeavor. The Wolf Lord was of course in dispose, so the Angels simply docked in low orbit and waited, yet already a small detachment of their famed second company had infiltrated the planet and surged ahead of the baying war call of the Space Wolves. The Ravenwing initially clashed with Eldar Pathfinders, but their mission was of a different nature, one of fact-finding and soon a dialogue was opened between the two foes. It seemed the Eldar may have information regarding one of the Fallen, ancient once-comrades of the Dark Angels who had fallen from grace in the days of the Heresy.

With just the utterance of the word "Fallen", squads of Deathwing were immediately deep striked to the Ravenwing's position. As painful as it was, an agreement of sorts was reached between them and the Eldar. The Deathwing would help "delay" the Space Wolves so that the last remaining Eldar could escape the planet. In return, the Farseerer who knew of the Fallen Angel's whereabouts, apparently within the Webway, would be "extracted" to the Dark Angel's lead cruiser.

Of course the Farseerer knew it was a death sentence and that his unlikely allies would turn on him as soon they got what they wanted, but he thought it a worthwhile sacrifice to save even one of his kind. Without the help of these Astartes, the Wolves would surely close off any retreat from the planet.

---------------------------------------------

The operation a success, the Farseerer was extracted to the Unforgiven cruisers above so he could be "interrogated" as the remaining main force of the Eldar managed to flee the planet ahead of the wolf pack. The Farseerer's rearguard who fought alongside the Deathwing were not so lucky however. As soon as the wolves advance was stalled and the Farseerer en route to his own doom, the Deathwing were ordered to turn their weapons on the Eldar that fought alongside them, an alliance of necessity, an alliance no more. Terminators amidst their ranks, the Eldar stood no chance and those that surrendered were transported to the Space Wolf lines.

A simple misunderstanding in the heat of battle the Deathwing sergeant would say as he turned over his prisoners to their fate.

Heraldry forged in battle
The First Company Deathwing are said to be promoted from the veterans of the other Dark Angel companies. In honor of those they once fought with, these battle brothers wear their former company icons proudly upon their heraldic shields.

  2. I didn't really come up with it... All Dark Angels are the "Sons of the Lion". Lion El'Jonson, The Lion for short, is their Primarch and thus all Dark Angels are his sons.

For now, my work in progress name for my army is "Battleforce Lion's Maw" of just "Lion's Maw" (as noted on my army list info). As I do not have an army to represent each company to it's full extent, I like to look at my model collection as a multi-company task force of sorts.
